LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office announced that eviction enforcement has been suspended because of dangerously cold temperatures.

According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, the suspension of evictions and set-outs will remain in effect until February 2, 2026.

Officials believe the move will prevent about 30 families from being displaced during the hazardous cold conditions.

“This is a public safety decision—plain and simple,” said Chief Deputy Col. Steve Healey. “Extreme cold can be deadly. No family should be forced out of their home when conditions put their health or their life at risk.”

Court-issued eviction orders will still remain valid, but their enforcement is being delayed.

The Sheriff’s Office said it will continue monitoring weather conditions to make sure public safety remains the top priority.
