TOPEKA (KSNT) — Federal health officials are expanding a nationwide recall of nasal sprays due to microbial contamination concerns.

The Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday that MediNatura New Mexico, Inc. is recalling all lots of its ReBoost Nasal Spray and ClearLife Nasal Spray, both sold online and in retail stores.

Last week, a single lot of ReBoost Nasal Spray was recalled after testing revealed yeast, mold, and microbial contamination, including Achromobacter at levels above specifications. Achromobacter can cause infections, some of which are resistant to antibiotics.

The expanded recall of ReBoost Nasal Spray and the new recall of ClearLife Nasal Spray come after further investigation detected similar microbial contamination.

The recall notice warns of a “reasonable probability that adverse health consequences, including life-threatening infections, will occur with use of the product in the immunocompromised population,” though no adverse events have been reported so far.

ReBoost Nasal Spray is advertised to temporarily relieve nasal congestion, sinus headache and pressure, postnasal drip, sneezing, runny nose, and nasal itching. ClearLife Allergy Nasal Spray is marketed for minor allergy symptoms including sinus pressure, runny or itchy nose, nasal congestion, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, allergy-related headache, and itchy throat and skin.

Both sprays come in 20 mL bottles with distinct packaging: ReBoost in white and yellow, ClearLife in white and green.
