A man was accused of murder after a woman was discovered dead in Central Park during a nor’easter, authorities said.
Police discovered an unconscious woman in Central Park under the gazebo near the boathouse at East 74th Street and East Drive. According to police, the woman seemed to be in her 60s and suffered from many stab wounds and head damage.
According to officials, EMS pronounced her deceased at the site.
Police said PIX11 News that a guy was being questioned at the Central Park Precinct Sunday afternoon.
Following questioning, Jonathan Robles, 36, was detained and charged with homicide and criminal possession of a weapon, according to the NYPD.
Police withheld the victim’s identification until family members were properly notified.
The victim’s relationship with Robles, as well as the circumstances surrounding the woman’s suspected murder inside the park, were not immediately known.
The investigation is underway.
“Concerning, disturbing, alarming—it’s horrible,” Linda Hazelton, a Texas tourist walking through Central Park with her daughter, told PIX11 News.
A jogger named Mike Alfred commented, “Sounds like the 1980s all over again.”
It is the first alleged murder to take place in Central Park in 2026.
