Twelve teenagers were injured in a shooting during a birthday party at Macon’s Carolyn Crayton Park in Georgia on September 27. Two groups exchanged words before gunfire erupted. Two victims were listed as critical but stable.
Deputies responded to Carolyn Crayton Park in Macon at 12:06 a.m. on Sunday, September 27, after receiving reports of gunfire near the skate‑park area, according to a press conference held by Bibb County Sheriff David Davis and a press release issued by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO).
While a large gathering assembled in the park, a second group arrived across the street, BCSO reported. Authorities said the two groups exchanged words, displayed firearms, and then opened fire on one another.
As deputies proceeded to the park, they learned that several victims had already been taken to a hospital in private vehicles, BCSO said.
BCSO confirmed that twelve individuals were injured: one 19‑year‑old male, four 18‑year‑old males, five 17‑year‑old males, and two 18‑year‑old females.
A 17‑year‑old male and an 18‑year‑old male were listed in critical but stable condition; the remaining nine victims were in stable condition.
The sheriff’s office reported that the emergency room was placed on lockdown as a large number of vehicles carrying relatives and friends of the victims arrived at the hospital.
Seven vehicles were seized for forensic analysis, including four that had transported victims to the hospital and three that remained at the park, authorities said.
Investigators also questioned ten witnesses at the sheriff’s office’s criminal investigation division.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains active and ongoing.
“More details will be released as they become available,” BCSO said.
During the press conference, Sheriff Davis noted that several victims were students from nearby Central High School and Northeast High School.
A representative of the Bibb County School District did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Davis explained that the celebration honored a girl turning eighteen. He added that the group had originally rented an Airbnb in Jones County, but the property owner “became concerned with some of the activities that were going on at the party” and asked the group to leave.
The attendees then reconvened at a second location in Carolyn Crayton Park.
