2 people dead following vehicle crash in North Carolina

Two people were killed and two others were injured Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Mount Airy, according to officials.

The collision occurred around 1:40 p.m. at the intersection of North Main Street and West Oakdale Street, according to Mount Airy Police.

Surry County EMS reported that two people were pronounced deceased at the scene. Two more individuals were transferred to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

According to police, one of the automobiles involved in the incident caught fire.

Authorities have not published the identities of anyone involved, and no information about what caused the crash has been made public.

The investigation is underway.
