Driver in deadly Beltway crash pleads guilty and sentenced to 6 years

One of the drivers involved in a deadly 2023 crash on the Baltimore Beltway that killed six construction workers has been sentenced to prison for breaking his probation.

Melachi Brown pleaded guilty to driving with a suspended license and acknowledged breaking his probation.

Brown was sentenced to six years in jail, followed by three years of supervised probation for the infraction.

The judge determined that Brown poses an “extreme risk” to public safety.

Brown previously served time in prison before being released in 2024 as part of a plea deal.

On March 22, 2023, six construction workers were killed in an accident on the west side of the Baltimore Beltway.

Investigators identified two of the fatalities as a father and son.

The crash occurred in a construction zone between Windsor Mill and Dogwood roads.

According to a National Transportation Safety Board report, speed was the primary cause of the fatal incident, with both Brown and Lisa Lea judged to be traveling faster than 120 MPH at the time.
