A 56-year-old man was apprehended after authorities say he is a law enforcement officer in the Joppatowne area.
According to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, deputies first contacted the suspect on April 30 when they noticed a car with red and blue emergency lights. When questioned, the driver claimed to be a police officer and showed what appeared to be official credentials.
Officials claimed deputies discovered irregularities throughout the interaction and initiated an investigation. The Maryland State Police later confirmed that the person was not a sworn law enforcement officer in the state.
On May 1, deputies located and arrested the suspect, Robert Dicocco. He was brought into custody without incident and transported to the Harford County Detention Center.
During the execution of search warrants, investigators discovered several materials, including a phony identification card, badges, and law enforcement-style apparel.
Dicocco has been charged with 10 counts of impersonating a police officer. He was later released with a $10,000 unsecured bond.
Authorities stated the investigation is still ongoing, and anyone who was stopped or solicited by Dicocco while impersonating as an officer should contact Sergeant Majewski at 443-567-7078.
All accused are deemed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
