94-year-old driver seriously injured in crash with semi in Mayfield

A two-vehicle crash involving a passenger car and a semi-truck left one person with serious injuries Monday afternoon, according to the Mayfield Police Department.

Police reported that 94-year-old Charles Wiman of Mayfield was driving south on Highway 121 near the intersection with U.S. 45 North when his vehicle, for unknown reasons, crossed into the northbound lane.

Authorities said Wiman’s car then collided with a semi-truck driven by 61-year-old John Lewis of Monticello before coming to rest on the opposite side of the roadway.

Emergency crews extricated Wiman from the vehicle and transported him to Jackson Purchase Medical Center before airlifting him to an out-of-state hospital with serious injuries. Lewis was not injured.

Responders from Mayfield-Graves Fire/EMS, the Graves County Sheriff’s Office, and the Kentucky Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
