Corydon, IN — A Leavenworth man was taken into custody Saturday night after allegedly leading Indiana State Police on a short motorcycle pursuit in Harrison County that ended with the discovery of suspected drugs.
According to Indiana State Police, the incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. Saturday when Trooper Nathaniel Newton attempted to stop a westbound motorcycle for speeding on State Highway 62 near Water Street in Corydon. Police said the driver, later identified as 51-year-old Rickie Lee Chambers Jr., failed to stop and continued west before turning north onto State Road 135.
Authorities said Chambers initially appeared to slow down but then accelerated again, prompting a brief pursuit. Deputies with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department observed the situation and assisted. Law enforcement officials said officers successfully boxed in the motorcycle near the intersection of State Road 135 and State Road 337, where they took Chambers into custody without further incident.
During the investigation, troopers and deputies discovered approximately two pounds of suspected marijuana, along with drug paraphernalia and a container holding multiple prescription pills.
Authorities transported Chambers to the Harrison County Jail. He faces several preliminary charges, including resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, multiple counts of possession of a controlled substance, dealing in marijuana, and possession of marijuana, all Level 6 felonies. He is also accused of driving while suspended and possession of paraphernalia, according to officials.
All charges are allegations, and Chambers is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
