American woman apprehended at border with 57 pounds of meth

An American woman was apprehended at a Texas border crossing carrying over 57 pounds of methamphetamine, according to US Customs and Border Protection.

The woman, who was not identified, was seeking to enter the United States from Mexico at the Paso del Norte border crossing when her vehicle was picked for a second check.

Customs officers said they found 57.9 pounds of methamphetamine in non-factory compartments of the woman’s SUV. The pills have an estimated street value of $521,100.

“CBP officers use their experience and advanced technology to stay one step ahead of smugglers,” said Ray Provencio, Director of Field Operations at CBP El Paso. “Their dedication and vigilance play a critical role in protecting our communities from the dangers of illicit drugs.”

The vehicle and drugs were seized, and the woman was placed in federal custody.
