HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — A Kentucky woman is in custody on felony charges after allegedly spraying a substance on DoorDash customers’ food, causing them to become sick, according to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO).

Kourtney N. Stevenson was arrested by the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office in Kentucky on charges of felony battery and consumer product tampering.

The incident occurred on December 7 when a couple reported that, after receiving a DoorDash delivery shortly after midnight, they experienced a burning sensation in their mouths, noses, throats, and stomachs, followed by vomiting. Review of doorbell camera footage allegedly showed the Dasher placing the food off camera and spraying a substance from a small aerosol can attached to her keychain.

Detectives subpoenaed DoorDash records, which identified Stevenson as the Dasher. Investigators located her near Paducah, Kentucky. During a phone call, Stevenson claimed she used pepper spray to target a spider she saw while making the delivery, not the food. Authorities noted that at the overnight low of 35°F, outdoor spiders in Indiana would not be active or on exposed surfaces.

Stevenson later refused to attend a scheduled in-person interview, prompting detectives to seek an arrest warrant. She faces two counts of battery resulting in moderate injury (Level 6 felonies) and two counts of consumer product tampering (Level 5 felonies).

Stevenson was arrested this morning in McCracken County and will be held without bond pending extradition to Indiana. Bond on the warrant is set at $3,500 cash.

Sheriff Noah Robinson said, “Residents should be able to trust that the food they order for their families is safe. When someone violates that trust and endangers others, we will respond with urgency and pursue charges. I want to commend our detectives and thank the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office and Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office for their assistance in making this arrest.”
