Kentucky State Police troopers shot and killed a man in Lawrence County late Saturday night.

According to state police, several troopers fired at 69-year-old Timothy Keeton after he pointed a firearm at them while they attempted to serve an arrest warrant.

Troopers had gone to a residence on KY-1715 in Martha, Kentucky, to look for a woman with active arrest warrants for assault.

Around 11:45 p.m., Keeton, who lived nearby, confronted the troopers. KSP said he told them to turn off their lights or he would shoot them out.

Keeton briefly went back to his home and returned with a firearm, according to police.

Troopers ordered him to drop the weapon, but he raised it and aimed it toward them. Troopers then fired their agency-issued weapons.

Life-saving measures were performed, but Keeton died. No other injuries were reported.

The troopers involved were not identified.

Kentucky State Police are investigating the shooting. In a news release, officials said they do not release specific details during active investigations until witnesses are interviewed and key facts are collected. They added that timelines vary depending on the complexity of the case.
