LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville man received a 15-year federal prison sentence for conspiring to sell firearms and methamphetamine to a confidential law enforcement source.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, 42-year-old Jonathan Ernspiker was charged with firearms trafficking, methamphetamine distribution, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and conspiring to sell 18 firearms and 58 grams of meth on November 20, 2024.

“Ernspiker’s 15-year sentence shows that the U.S. Attorney’s Office and ATF have no tolerance for drug and illegal firearms trafficking,” said U.S. Attorney Kyle Bumgarner. “These crimes contribute significantly to the violence plaguing our community. We hope this sentence sends a strong deterrent message.”

On January 10, 2025, Louisville Metro Police and ATF agents visited Liquor Palace 5 at Preston Highway and East Indian Trail as part of the investigation. Ernspiker and 51-year-old Sukhjit Bains faced federal charges linked to the raid in the Newburg area.

Prosecutors accused both men of trafficking guns and methamphetamine while being convicted felons in possession of firearms. Bains was also accused of illegally possessing a 3D-printed device capable of converting a semi-automatic weapon into a machine gun.
