Rep. Thomas Massie pushed back at President Donald Trump this week, accusing him of “trying to be a bully” after Trump appeared to criticize the Kentucky congressman’s recent marriage.
On Friday, Nov. 14, Trump shared a post on Truth Social asking whether Massie had “married already,” adding, “His wife will soon find out that she’s stuck with a LOSER!” Massie married Carolyn Moffa, a former congressional staffer for Sen. Rand Paul, last month. His late wife, Rhonda Massie, died in June 2024 after more than 30 years of marriage.
Tensions between the two have risen since Massie and Rep. Ro Khanna, a California Democrat, introduced legislation to require the Justice Department to release a full version of the government’s files on accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein—a move the Trump administration has opposed.
When asked about Trump’s remarks during an interview on ABC’s “This Week” on Nov. 16, Massie joked that his wife said, “We should have invited Donald Trump. He’s mad that he didn’t get an invitation.”
“We’re taking it with a grain of salt,” Massie added. “He’s being a bully, or trying to be a bully.”
Massie also addressed Trump’s endorsement of a Republican challenger running against him in the 2026 midterm elections.
“We are winning,” Massie said. “And not only the speaker, but the attorney general, the FBI director, and the president himself, and the vice president, they’re taking a big loss this week because after months of fighting, I am winning this week with Ro Khanna. We’re forcing this vote, and it’s going to happen,” he said, referring to his discharge petition related to the Epstein files.
The back-and-forth adds to a long line of public disputes between Massie and Trump. Earlier this year, Trump criticized Massie in June over his objections to U.S. airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites.
