Louisville, Ky. — Authorities in Louisville are alerting residents about a new text message scam making the rounds in the area.
The scam message claims recipients could face court action over traffic violations in “St. Louis County, Ky.” — a place that does not exist.
According to Jeffersontown Police, this is just the latest in a string of scams aimed at people in Louisville.
“If you receive a text message demanding payment for a traffic violation, do not fall for it,” the department wrote on social media. “These messages may appear official, but they are fraudulent.”
Authorities advise anyone who gets one of these messages to delete it immediately and avoid clicking any links or scanning QR codes.
“Legitimate agencies do not request payment through unsolicited text messages,” Jeffersontown Police added. “Please share this to help protect others in our community.”
