Cincinnati, OH – A new active weather pattern is set to bring widespread rain to the Ohio Valley starting late Monday night and continuing through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service Ohio River Forecast Center.

Forecasters say most of the region will see 0.50 to 3.00 inches of rainfall, with the highest amounts expected along the Illinois–Indiana–Kentucky border, including southern Illinois, southern Indiana, and western and central Kentucky. Rain totals over the next 48 hours will be lighter—generally around 0.50 inches or less—as lake-effect showers continue along eastern Lake Erie Sunday into Sunday night. The heavier rainfall will arrive with the midweek storm system.

Forecast maps released Sunday morning show a wide band of moderate to heavy precipitation across the Ohio Valley. Deeper blues and purples on the 7-day outlook indicate the potential for 2 to 3 inches of rain in parts of the tri-state border region. Areas farther north and east, including Ohio, West Virginia, and western Pennsylvania, are expected to receive lower totals but still see widespread rainfall.

The approaching pattern will bring several waves of moisture, producing repeated rounds of rain from Tuesday through Saturday. Forecasters warn that this could cause ponding on roads, reduced visibility for drivers, and rising water in low-lying areas, though major flooding is not expected at this time.

The Ohio River Forecast Center urges residents to stay updated on rainfall projections as the system develops, especially in southern Illinois, southern Indiana, and northern Kentucky, where the heaviest precipitation is expected.
