ATHENS, Ohio (WOWK) — An Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) trooper and a Scioto County teen were among three people injured in a crash Saturday night in Athens Township.
According to an OSHP release, the crash happened around 11:49 p.m. on U.S. Route 50, just west of Hooper Road.
Officials said a 47-year-old Athens man was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes when he collided head-on with a marked OSHP cruiser. His vehicle then struck another car driven by a 19-year-old from Minford, who was also traveling westbound.
Troopers suspect the Athens man was impaired at the time of the crash.
Athens County EMS transported the Athens man to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The trooper driving the cruiser was treated and released with minor injuries, while the teen received on-scene treatment for a minor injury.
The investigation remains ongoing, and charges are pending.
OSHP troopers responded to the scene along with the Athens Police Department, Athens County Fire Department, Richland Area Fire Department, Athens County EMS, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
