FRANKFORT, Ky. — Governor Andy Beshear announced Friday that Kentucky has resecured $17.8 million in previously allocated federal funds to expand electric vehicle charging stations.
The announcement follows Kentucky joining a lawsuit in August challenging the Trump Administration’s freeze on funding for the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program, which had pledged over $32 million to the state.
The funds will support Phase 2 and Phase 3 of Kentucky’s EV plan, expanding charging infrastructure along priority corridors, in communities, and at destination sites across the state.
So far, Kentucky has awarded 46 fast-charging station sites statewide, with five stations already open and three more under construction.
The awarded sites are located along the state’s interstates and parkways. Each station must include at least four charging ports of 150 kilowatts or more, be accessible to the public 24/7, and be compatible with most EV models.
