A 28-year-old man whose Florida driver’s license has been suspended 17 times was caught early Friday after police claimed he crashed into a North Miami bar and grill, hurting several people, and then fled.
Dontral Jackson was detained shortly before 2 a.m. Friday after North Miami police officers pulled down a white Chevrolet Malibu between Northwest 119th Street and Seventh Avenue, according to his arrest record.
According to police, multiple persons flagged down an officer on regular patrol and reported that a car had fled the scene of a crash at Makana Kava Bar & Hawaiian Kitchen, 12009 NW Seventh Ave.
Officers later observed Jackson, who resides in Miami’s Spring Garden neighborhood, driving away from the scene and stopped him, according to the report.
According to authorities, a witness who came out of the restaurant noticed Jackson driving the vehicle and attempted to stop him. According to the investigation, a victim eventually identified Jackson as the motorist who caused the crash.
A study of Jackson’s driving records revealed that his Florida license had been suspended 17 times. The most recent ban, on June 15, was for a criminal refusal to pay, according to the report.
According to documents, Jackson is charged with one count of leaving the scene of a crash involving no serious injury and knowingly driving with a suspended license.
The arrest report did not say how many individuals were harmed or if anyone was hospitalized.
Jackson was being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Friday, with his bond indicated as “to be set.”
