Police: Man Killed And Another Critically Injured In Fight-turned-shooting In Marquette Park

Two men were shot, one fatally, during a fight on the city’s Southwest Side on Friday morning, Chicago police said.

Police reported a shooting in the Marquette Park neighborhood’s 6500-block of South Maplewood Avenue at 9:30 a.m. According to authorities, a man suspect approached two guys, ages 27 and 38, who were standing outside. They got into a battle with the suspect, who pulled out a gun and began firing.

Police said the 27-year-old was shot in the body and sent to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was declared dead. His name was not immediately published.

The 38-year-old, who was wounded in the back and armpit, was transported to Christ Hospital in critical condition.

The suspect, whose age was not immediately determined, fled the scene.

There were no further injuries recorded, and Area One detectives are investigating.

Authorities did not immediately provide any information.
