The Mississippi Highway Patrol reported two fatalities and dozens of injuries on state roadways during the Labor Day weekend travel period.
According to state troopers, there were 136 collisions investigated statewide during the 2026 Labor Day Holiday Travel Period, which lasted from Friday, September 4, at 6:00 p.m. to Monday, September 7, at midnight. These accidents resulted in 44 injuries and two tragic deaths, with one fatal wreck in Winston County and another in Hancock County.
The deadly accident in Winston County happened Saturday, September 5, around 5:00 p.m. on Highway 15. Investigators say Brandon Taylor, 29, of Starkville, was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry south when it off the road and hit with a tree. Taylor sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.
The second deadly crash occurred on Highway 607 in Hancock County around 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 7. According to investigators, Hope Dabrovolskis, 23, of Picayune, was driving a 2021 Toyota Corolla north when it collided with a 2019 Ram 1500 pickup truck driven by Clifton Wilkerson, 50, of Pass Christian. Dabrovolskis died from her injuries on the scene, while Wilkerson was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries.
During the holiday weekend, troopers worked across the state, assisting 88 motorists and reacting to crashes. The ultimate figures for the holiday travel period are 136 collisions, 44 injuries, two fatal crashes resulting in two deaths, and 88 motorist assists. The Mississippi Highway Patrol continues to investigate both deadly accidents.
