Najmo Ahmed sentenced to 14 months in Feeding Our Future fraud scheme

The latest sentence in the enormous Feeding Our Future fraud scheme was handed out on Monday.

Najmo Ahmed was sentenced to 14 months in federal prison. Sentencing guidelines were for 21 to 27 months, but prosecutors wanted more than two years. Her sentence is set to begin on July 15, followed by one year of supervised release.

Ahmed must also repay roughly $1.4 million in restitution immediately.

Najmo Ahmed and her husband falsely claimed to feed over 3,200 children twice a day at their Minneapolis grocery store and restaurant, Evergreen Grocery and Restaurant. Last year, Ahmed pleaded guilty to accepting more than $4.2 million in payments from Feeding Our Future based on false statements.

According to authorities, between April 2020 and April 2021, Ahmed claimed to serve over 1.4 million meals to youngsters.

According to US authorities, Ahmed laundered roughly $1.4 million through personal bank accounts and used the money to fund her opulent lifestyle.

Another defendant faces sentencing

On Tuesday, another defendant, Asha Jama, will be sentenced in a separate case. Jama was found guilty of using a Rochester eatery to cheat the child nutrition program of more than $5 million.

In this case, prosecutors want Jama to serve a 16-month prison sentence.
