Indianapolis man sentenced to prison after armed robbery at auto repair shop in March 2025

An Indianapolis man was sentenced for an armed robbery at an auto repair shop in March 2025.

Daequan Curothers, 25, from Indianapolis, was sentenced to 28 years in jail.

Curothers was convicted in two separate cases involving armed robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and resisting law enforcement.

Both incidents occurred in Marion County, while Curothers was on bond in Hamilton County for unauthorized possession of a firearm by a major violent criminal and drugs violations.

According to court records, Curothers robbed an auto repair shop in the 3000 block of Guion Road, near West 30th Street and Lafayette Road, on March 21, 2025.

According to court filings, camera footage shows a guy subsequently identified as Curothers arguing with an employee at an auto shop.

The cameras show the employee pulling money from his pocket, Curothers taking it, and then pulling out a weapon and pointing it at the employee. The employee informed authorities that Curothers threatened to kill him.

The video concludes with Curothers leaving in a red Jeep with a woman.

The employee told police that Curothers ended up taking $642.

Curothers had a warrant out for his arrest. Curothers evaded police in May 2025 before being apprehended.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office stated that Curothers was convicted of armed robbery in March 2026.

Following the trial, Curothers pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and agreed to the habitual offender sentencing increase.
