$1 Million Mass. lottery winner to buy summer home with prize

Someone who won $1 million playing the lottery in Massachusetts last week hopes to use the money to buy a summer home.

The $1 million prize came from “$2,000,000 50X Cashword,” a $10 scratch ticket game launched in 2025. As of May 28, the game still had six $1 million prizes and three $2 million grand prizes to be claimed.

On May 21, the winner, represented by Quincy’s Summers Coming Trust and trustee David Spillane, came forward to receive their ticket. They choose to receive the award as a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes.

Spillane informed the lottery that the winner intends to use the prize money to purchase a summer cottage.

The winner purchased their ticket from Holland Convenience, which is situated at 99 Holland St. in Somerville. The retailer will get a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
