Road rage incident ends with brawl in intersection, one apprehended

A driver’s cell phone was out and recording when a fight broke out in the middle of a busy Fox Meadows intersection early Saturday night.

Kevin Coleman couldn’t believe what he saw before him. An altercation between two women, a man, and a woman was obstructing both lanes of traffic near Mendenhall and Knight Arnold roads.

“You never know what you are going to see in Memphis, man,” Coleman wrote in a Facebook post.

One of the women who was pulled to the ground told police that it all began when she honked her horn at a car she thought was going too slowly through the signal.

She claimed that a woman, later identified as Tarika Brownkeys, got out of the vehicle, approached her car, and began hitting her.

The woman stated that her sister came in to defend her, at which point an unknown male intervened and began punching both of them in the face.

The mobile phone footage shows the man and lady kicking and beating the sisters as they are on the pavement.

“It’s really unfortunate to see violence in the city, especially men putting their hands on women,” Coleman added.

Brownkeys told officers she and her brother were pulling their disabled car along Mendenhall when the sisters jumped out and began assaulting her.

However, investigators said they discovered camera footage from a nearby traffic light that showed Brownkeys approaching the sister’s car and attacking them.

Brownkeys, 24, was arrested, charged with simple assault, and then released on her own recognizance. According to police, the male suspect escaped before authorities arrived on location.

Coleman’s video also shows a man getting out of a car with a revolver and reaching inside for a rifle just as the altercation ends.
