2 people arrested in Owensboro following traffic stop, foot pursuit and drug seizure

Two people were detained in Daviess County on April 29, 2026, after a traffic check turned into a foot pursuit and the discovery of a loaded handgun, suspected cocaine, and cash.

A K-9 unit from the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office saw a 2015 red Nissan Altima run a stop sign at West 5th and Cedar Street in Owensboro around 3:30 p.m. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but it drove into the parking lot of Neighbors Food Mart. A male passenger, Tyler Lee Underwood, 21, of Louisville, leaped out and fled on foot.

While the K-9 deputy pursued the passenger, the driver of the vehicle drove away. Additional deputies came in the area, apprehended Underwood, and arrested him after he struggled. During the arrest, deputies discovered a loaded AR-15-style handgun in his waistband, along with suspected powdered cocaine and a considerable amount of US dollars.

Underwood is charged with first-degree running or escaping police on foot, first-degree trafficking in a controlled narcotic, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and resisting arrest. He was also presented with probation violation warrants for earlier offenses such as wanton endangerment, receiving stolen property, and evading charges.

The vehicle’s driver, 18-year-old Owensboro resident Aynara Sawde Carbon, was apprehended shortly thereafter in the 600 block of Orchard Street. Carbon was also arrested and charged with first-degree flight or escaping police in a motor vehicle and disobeying a stop sign. Both suspects were brought to the Daviess County Detention Center, and all seized evidence was documented.
