The Kentucky Home Life Building in downtown Louisville has been sold to Thrash Group for nearly $5 million.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A historic building in downtown Louisville now has new ownership.
Thrash Group, based in Mississippi, purchased the Kentucky Home Life Building at 237 S. 5th Street for $4.67 million during a Friday auction, according to Louisville Business First.
The 112-year-old building, located across from Metro Hall, has been vacant and was recently appraised at $7 million, despite its “poor” interior condition caused by vandalism and deterioration.
Developers proposed plans last year to transform the property into a mixed-use development featuring residential units, a hotel, and retail space. Louisville Business First reported that Thrash Group applied to Mayor Craig Greenberg’s Downtown Louisville Building Conversion Program and was selected as one of four finalists.
If the project receives funding, it would become the third to benefit from the program, which is supported by a portion of the $100 million allocated by the Kentucky General Assembly for Louisville revitalization efforts.
The Kentucky Home Life Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
