Homeless Initiative in Louisville Gets Major Donation Toward Permanent Housing Goal
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A significant boost in funding is set to help more people experiencing homelessness in Louisville transition into permanent housing.
City officials announced Thursday that the Home for Good Initiative received two major donations totaling $1 million.
The Gheens Foundation contributed $500,000, following an earlier $500,000 donation from Mary Gwen Wheeler and David Jones Jr..
The initiative aims to place 250 individuals into permanent housing by next year, working alongside community partners such as Well Spring.
Morgan Wyatt, who previously experienced homelessness, said the program changed her life.
“It was permanent supportive housing that paved the way for me,” Wyatt said. “Well Spring not only housed me but connected me to case management services, making sure I had access to the resources needed to maintain housing. Permanent supportive housing didn’t only give me a place to live, it gave me a foundation of hope.”
Beyond housing, the program provides additional support services, including:
- Health care access
- Job training
- Case management and social work services
Officials say the Home for Good campaign is working toward a broader fundraising goal of $3 million to expand its impact and help more residents secure stable housing.
