A Southern restaurant brand founded in Asheville, North Carolina, is set to expand into Louisville.

Tupelo Honey, a multi-state chain known for blending “Southern and Appalachian spirit into every bite,” plans to open its first Louisville location at 10017 Ballardsville Road, according to a permit filed with the city on April 6.

The restaurant’s website lists the location as “coming 2027,” marking both its Louisville debut and its first entry into Kentucky.

Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen & Bar first opened in downtown Asheville in 2000 and has since grown to nearly 30 locations across North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Texas, along with single locations in Indianapolis and Columbus, Ohio.

Known for its signature fried chicken, the restaurant offers brunch, lunch, dinner, and happy hour. Popular menu items include buttermilk drop biscuits, Southern shakshuka, peach chicken and waffles, and the Asheville hot chicken and ranch melt sandwich.

The planned 5,483-square-foot restaurant will be located near the recently opened Publix at 1005 Ballardsville Road, which debuted in September 2025. Construction of the Louisville location is expected to cost about $1.4 million, according to the permit filing.
