LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Average gas prices in Louisville Metro jumped by 20 cents on Tuesday compared to the previous day, according to AAA data.
Drivers in Louisville Metro are now paying around $4.19 per gallon for regular gas, about 5 cents higher than the national average.
“I’m spending 50 more bucks, 80 more bucks on gas a week alone,” said Marlicia Girten, a mother of six. “Taking the kids back and forth from school, taking them back and forth to daycare, yeah it’s tough.”
For many, filling up the tank has become a financial strain.
“It’s ridiculous. This isn’t even going to get me halfway and I’m putting in 30 right now,” said Ryan Wayson while watching the pump total climb. “I had to take on a second job just to deal with the cost of living. Even now, I’m barely getting by with two jobs.”
Wayson also expressed concern that prices could rise even further.
On Tuesday, AAA reported that average gas prices across Kentucky were nearly 17 cents per gallon below the national average of $4.14.
However, prices in Metro Louisville stood about 6 cents above the national average, reaching $4.19 per gallon.
That figure marks a $1 increase from the previous month, a 30-cent rise from the prior week, and a 20-cent jump from the day before.
“I can’t even do the things that I need to do because the gas is so high. It’s crazy,” said Rhonda Perkins. “Sometimes I’ll drive out to E-town just to save 20 cents.”
