The 2026 Parks Tour will bring free performances of Shakespeare’s The Tempest to a record number of Louisville parks.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A record number of Louisville neighborhoods will have the opportunity to experience live theater in their community this spring — and it’s free.

Kentucky Shakespeare’s 2026 Parks Tour will feature William Shakespeare’s comedy The Tempest. The production is adapted and directed by Crystian Wiltshire.

Officials said the season will include 46 performances across the city and feature more Louisville Parks and Recreation locations than ever before.

“We began touring to just nine parks in 2014,” said Matt Wallace, producing artistic director of Kentucky Shakespeare. “We are beyond grateful for the amazing community support making this access to professional theatre possible.”

The Tempest follows the story of a powerful sorcerer, Prospero, his daughter Miranda, and a group of shipwrecked visitors who arrive on a mysterious island filled with magic, mischief, and redemption. Each performance lasts about 75 minutes.

Audience members are encouraged to bring their own chair or blanket for most park performances, except at the Iroquois Amphitheater.

Kentucky Shakespeare performances will take place at the following Louisville parks:

Story Avenue Park
Alberta O. Jones Park
Sun Valley Park
Farnsley Park
Parkhill Park
Iroquois Amphitheater
Russell Lee Park
Long Run Park
Hounz Lane Park
Shawnee Park
Klondike Park
Tyler Park
Riverview Park
Shelby Park
Petersburg Park
Highview Park
Seneca Park
Emerson Park
