LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) — Crews will begin overnight ramp and lane closures on I-65 and I-264 this week as part of traffic relief work ahead of the I-65 Central Corridor project, which will temporarily shut down a stretch of the interstate in Louisville this summer.
Starting the evening of Tuesday, Feb. 10, workers will widen and restripe interstate ramps to boost capacity and improve merge operations. Officials say these upgrades will help reduce congestion along the designated detour route.
This phase of the project is expected to wrap up by March, though weather conditions could cause delays.
I-65 between Jefferson Street and Interstate 264 will close from June through July 2026 so crews can replace three aging bridges as part of the two-year Central Corridor project aimed at improving safety and travel along I-65 in Louisville.
During the two-month shutdown, drivers will detour to I-264 (Watterson Expressway) and Interstate 64. On-ramps at Jefferson Street and Liberty Street/Muhammad Ali Boulevard will remain open.

The off-ramp from northbound I-65 to eastbound I-264 will close from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11.
