Residents in Louisville can now apply for “Love Your Block” mini-grants aimed at improving neighborhoods and public spaces across the city.
Mayor Craig Greenberg announced that applications are open for grants ranging from $100 to $5,000. The funding supports resident-led projects designed to strengthen communities and enhance local spaces.
The initiative is part of the mayor’s Safe Louisville Plan and ties into the city’s broader violence prevention strategy. Officials say empowering neighbors to take the lead on visible improvements can help foster pride, safety and stronger connections within communities.
The program is backed by the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University and is part of the national Love Your Block effort. Since launching in 2009, the nationwide initiative has engaged nearly 50,000 participants and helped transform close to 4,000 public spaces through projects such as public art installations, graffiti removal and large-scale cleanups.
Louisville was selected in 2024 as one of 16 cities in the largest Love Your Block cohort to date.
Expanded Eligibility in West Louisville
This year, the city is expanding eligibility to more west Louisville neighborhoods. In addition to Shawnee, residents in Chickasaw, Parkland, Russell and California can now apply.
City leaders say eligible projects may include:
-
Turning vacant lots into community gardens
-
Repairing playground equipment
-
Cleaning public rights-of-way
-
Other hands-on neighborhood improvements
Residents interested in applying can find more information through the city’s Office of Violence Prevention.
