Louisville, Ky. – Drivers across parts of southern Indiana and central Kentucky should prepare for slick travel conditions Friday as light snow moves through the region during peak commute hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST Friday for portions of Indiana and east central to north central Kentucky. Snow is expected to begin early Friday morning, continue through the afternoon, and then taper off.
Forecasters say most areas will receive up to 1 inch of snow, with isolated locations possibly seeing as much as 2 inches. While snowfall totals are expected to be light, the timing could create hazardous conditions during both the morning and evening commutes.
The advisory covers parts of southern Indiana and central Kentucky, including communities such as Madison, Bedford, Milton, Lexington, Frankfort, Georgetown, Paris, Winchester, Cynthiana, Carlisle, and New Castle. The affected area includes multiple counties north and east of Louisville, including Jefferson County, Indiana, as well as several counties surrounding the Lexington metro area.
Weather officials warn that even small amounts of snow can quickly make roads slippery, especially on untreated surfaces, bridges, and overpasses. Reduced traction and slower travel speeds are likely during periods of steady snowfall.
Drivers are encouraged to slow down, leave extra stopping distance, and use caution, particularly during peak travel times. Travelers can check real-time road conditions at 511in.org for Indiana and goky.ky.gov for Kentucky.
Residents are also advised to allow extra time for travel to work or school and to monitor local forecasts for updates in case snowfall amounts change.
