Jefferson County Public Schools has canceled all weekend activities as a major winter storm is expected to impact the region.
District officials announced Thursday that all athletic events, practices, and extracurricular activities scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 24, and Sunday, Jan. 25, have been called off. The cancellations apply to both home and away competitions, as well as team practices and club meetings.
Forecasters are predicting several inches of snow across Kentucky and southern Indiana, along with dangerously cold Arctic temperatures. In Louisville, snowfall totals could range from 8 to more than 12 inches over the weekend.
“We will continue to monitor the conditions closely,” JCPS spokesperson Carolyn Callahan said.
School officials said the cancellations were made out of an abundance of caution due to the potential for hazardous travel conditions. The district said additional updates will be shared as weather conditions continue to develop.
