Three fire departments are working to put out a house fire in Greenville, Indiana, that sent two people to the hospital, including a firefighter.

GREENVILLE, Ind. (WAVE) — Crews from multiple agencies responded to a structure fire just after 4 p.m. Sunday on Windhill Drive, according to the Highlander Fire Protection District.

When firefighters arrived, they found flames burning through much of the home’s second-floor attic.

The Palmyra Fire Department and Floyd County Fire were called in to assist. Officials said sub-freezing temperatures made efforts to control the fire more challenging.

HFPD said one civilian was taken to the hospital as a precaution, though it has not been confirmed whether the person lives at the home.

A firefighter was also transported to the hospital for evaluation after partially falling through the floor on the second story. Officials said the firefighter did not suffer serious injuries.

According to HFPD, the entire second floor of the home is a total loss.

As of 7 p.m., crews remained on scene working to extinguish remaining hot spots.
