LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A firefighter was taken to the hospital for evaluation after falling through the floor while battling a house fire in southern Indiana.

Highlander Fire responded to a house fire shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday on Windhill Drive in the Wind Dance Farm subdivision off Highway 150 in Greenville, according to department spokesperson Ryan Houchen.

Houchen said crews arrived to find fire burning across much of the second-floor attic, stretching from the front to the sides of the home. Firefighters had difficulty knocking down the flames, and freezing temperatures made conditions even more challenging.

Palmyra Fire and Floyd County Fire from Georgetown were called in to provide additional manpower, Houchen said.

One resident and a firefighter who fell through part of the second-floor flooring were taken to the hospital for evaluation. Houchen said the firefighter did not suffer serious injuries.

The second floor of the home is considered a total loss, while much of the first floor sustained fire and smoke damage. Four people were displaced as a result of the fire.

Houchen said crews remained on scene as of 7 p.m. working to clear hot spots. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
