Neighbors stepped in to help an 85-year-old Louisville woman after powerful winds uprooted a tree now threatening her home.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Strong winds over the weekend left behind a hazardous situation in Louisville.

A dead tree in Delores Neal’s yard was pulled from the ground during Saturday night’s gusts and now leans toward her house. Neal, who is 85 and widowed, said she didn’t realize the extent of the damage until morning.

“I didn’t know the tree had fallen until I got up this morning and it was a shock, let me tell ya,” Neal said. “I’m glad it didn’t hit the house, I’m thankful for that.”

The tree sits just inches from her roof and appears to be leaning more each day, raising fears it could slide or crash into the home if strong winds return.

Thankfully, Neal is not facing the problem alone. Neighbors and friends have already offered to cut down and remove the tree before it shifts further. She said their help and kindness mean everything to her.
