David Krell’s sister says community support has been overwhelming during the family’s grief
David Krell, who was paralyzed after a tornado tore through southern Kentucky in May, has died from complications related to his injuries.
His sister, Shawn Cupp, said his health had steadily declined over the past few months due to the paralysis. Krell passed away earlier this month.
“He laughed, he joked, that’s just who he was. He took every challenge that came at him,” Cupp said.
Community steps up for funeral costs
Cupp said her family started a GoFundMe to raise money for Krell’s funeral. Just days later, Martin’s Peterbilt in London reached out and offered to cover the entire cost.
“I’m pretty sure my daughter posted the fundraiser on Tuesday, and on Friday we brought him home,” Cupp said.
Even after the funeral expenses were paid, donations continued to come in.
“I promised him all the time that no matter how hard it got, that I was always gonna be right there beside him, and we did. We fought the good fight together,” Cupp said.
She added that the community’s support has been overwhelming during their grief.
“It’s been really amazing. They’ve never let us down, I promise you that. They don’t let anybody down. Everybody has been amazing, through all of it,” she said.
The family’s final wish is to take Krell’s remains to Florida, where he grew up.
Any funds raised beyond the GoFundMe goal will help Cupp get back on her feet, since she wasn’t able to work while caring for her brother.
