BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews are getting ready for potentially slick conditions overnight as a light wintry system moves into south-central Kentucky.

The National Weather Service expanded a winter weather advisory Monday to include several southern District 3 counties, including Warren, Simpson, and Logan. KYTC officials said the forecast shifted throughout the day, increasing the likelihood of at least minor travel impacts.

KYTC District 3 spokesman Wes Watt said crews spent Monday pre-treating interstates and parkways and will monitor conditions around the clock.

“It may turn out to be a little more hazardous than we initially thought, but we’re prepared,” Watt said, adding that bridge decks and overpasses will be the first areas to freeze.

Watt urged drivers to slow down, give road crews extra space, and stay alert to rapidly changing conditions if snow or ice develops overnight. Motorists can track real-time roadway updates and treatment operations through the state’s winter weather portal, snowky.ky.gov.

Officials said they are not expecting major accumulation, but even a brief period of freezing precipitation could create dangerous spots before the morning commute.
