LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) — Two Louisville Metro Police officers recently shared a joyful reunion with the children they saved from a terrifying house fire months ago.
Officers Capito and Richardson were among the first to respond when the Rayburn family’s home went up in flames. By the time they arrived, the house was fully engulfed, one child was seriously injured, and the situation was chaotic.
Amid the smoke and confusion, they learned another child was still trapped inside.
A brave neighbor entered the burning home first. Moments later, the officers followed without hesitation or protective gear. They searched through the heavy smoke until they found the missing child unconscious near a window, his hands bloodied from trying to break free. He had fought until the smoke overwhelmed him.
The neighbor located the boy and passed him to the officers, who rushed him outside and began lifesaving first aid. Both children, Camdyn and Coltyn Rayburn, suffered burns but ultimately survived.
LMPD has released footage from the rescue and the officers’ emotional reunion with the young boy.
