With technology expanding quickly, kids have more access to the internet than ever — and that also makes it easier for child predators to reach potential victims.

Law enforcement across the Commonwealth is working to make cyberspace safer for Kentucky’s children. In October alone, Kentucky State Police made three arrests tied to child sex abuse material.

Governor Andy Beshear said he wants to send a firm message to anyone who would harm a child.

“Our message is clear. If you prey on children online or in-person, we will find you, we will arrest you, we will incarcerate you. Because we want to keep every one of Kentucky’s children safe, we will not stop until we find you,” Beshear said.

The KSP Electronic Crime Branch has also partnered with Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky to create a series of videos offering tips to help parents protect their kids online.

Beshear emphasized the importance of community involvement in keeping children safe. He said everyone can play a role in stopping abuse and exploitation.

“If you see something, say something,” he said. “It is your legal duty to report child abuse, but if you just see something that’s wrong, make sure you make a call. It takes all of us working together to protect every single child in our state.”

Since 2019, Kentucky State Police have arrested 474 online predators for internet-related crimes against the state’s children.
