KENTUCKY — The first measurable snowfall of the season is on the way for eastern Kentucky, with a Winter Weather Advisory in effect through early Tuesday morning.

The advisory includes Bell, Pike, Harlan, and Letcher counties, covering towns such as Pikeville, Coal Run, South Williamson, Middlesboro, Pineville, Elkhorn City, Harlan, Jenkins, Cumberland, and Whitesburg.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, snow is expected to begin after 7 p.m. Sunday and continue off and on through 7 a.m. Tuesday. Total accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are forecast across the region.

While snowfall totals are not expected to be heavy, officials warn that road conditions could become slick, particularly overnight and during the early morning commute Monday. The weather could also affect the evening drive home as temperatures remain cold.

Drivers are urged to slow down, maintain extra distance between vehicles, and use caution on untreated or elevated roadways. Residents should also stay alert for weather updates.
