Weather Channel meteorologist Jim Cantore issued a serious warning Thursday morning about a powerful “western October storm” moving across the United States.
Just days ago, Cantore cautioned that the same system that hit California would “eject into the Plains” by the end of the week, bringing severe weather to Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee, and Texas.
While the storm has yet to make full impact, Cantore warned that several states could face dangerous conditions on Saturday, including the possibility of tornadoes.
“Meanwhile our western October storm is coming east for SEVERE threats overnight Friday through Saturday and Saturday evening,” Cantore posted on X. “Saturday is the bigger day with all hazards in play including tornadoes.”
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued the following safety tips to help residents prepare for potential tornadoes:
-
Be Weather-Ready: Regularly check forecasts to know if your area is at risk.
-
Create a Communications Plan: Establish a family meeting place and know where to go if you live in a mobile home or a house without a basement. Identify a nearby safe building such as a church or family member’s home.
-
Practice Your Plan: Run a family severe weather drill so everyone knows what to do when a tornado warning is issued.
-
Prepare Your Home: Reinforce your safe room or designated shelter space.
More updates on this “western October storm” are expected within the next 24 hours.
Stay alert and take precautions to keep yourself and your family safe this weekend.
