A Gaithersburg man won $50,000 playing the Maryland Lottery’s Pick 5 game using a set of numbers that are unique to him.
According to the Maryland Lottery, the winner, an auto mechanic, stopped at Goshen Beer & Wine in Montgomery Village on August 3 to buy a Coke before spending his final $5 on Pick 3 and Pick 5 tickets. His Pick 5 numbers, 8-4-8-9-6, matched the evening’s drawing exactly, giving him the $50,000 top prize.
“It was the first time I had seen my numbers come out,” he told lottery officials. “I was shocked.”
The winner stated that he intends to use the money to pay property taxes and do some home remodeling. Goshen Beer & Wine, located at 9150 Rothbury Drive, will be awarded a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
