21-year-old dead after crash on Interstate 75 NB in Miami County

One person has died in a crash on Interstate 75 in Miami County on Saturday.

According to News Center 7, cops and medics responded to a crash on I-75 northbound near State Route 41 around 8 p.m.

Upon arrival, troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Piqua Post discovered that a 2010 Freightliner tractor-trailer had stopped on the right shoulder of a construction zone due to a mechanical issue, according to a spokesperson.

Several minutes after the Freightliner came to a halt, it was hit from behind by a 2005 Chevrolet Impala that had previously been driving north.

The Impala had exited its lane and entered the closed lane of the construction zone.

Derek Blakely, 43, of Bethel, was not hurt while driving the Freightliner.

The Impala’s driver, 21-year-old Yukahn Riffell of Ansonia, was killed in the crash.

The crash is still under investigation.
