Kentucky school police officer accused of inappropriate communication with student

A former school resource officer in McCracken County is facing multiple misdemeanor charges after Kentucky State Police investigated allegations of misconduct involving a student.

On May 11, Kentucky State Police received a report from McCracken County High School regarding inappropriate conduct by School Resource Officer Darrin Frommeyer. According to a news release, a student first reported the allegations to school administrators.

“During the investigation, the student explained that Officer Frommeyer had accessed her cellphone without her permission and took ‘selfie’ photos of himself on her phone two different times. It was also reported that Officer Frommeyer contacted the student multiple times through the social media platform TikTok and interacted with her Instagram account,” the news release said.

At the time of the alleged incidents, Frommeyer worked for the McCracken County School System.

Investigators said Frommeyer communicated with the student outside the school district’s approved traceable communication system on at least three occasions, violating state law.

“Due to Officer Frommeyer being a public servant, the reported violations (led) to the criminal offenses of Official Misconduct 2nd Degree. Officer Frommeyer has since resigned from his position with the McCracken County School System,” police said.

Frommeyer, 58, of Paducah, has been charged with three counts of second-degree official misconduct and two counts of fourth-degree unlawful access to a computer, according to state police.

WPSD in Paducah reported that Frommeyer’s attorney, Jeremy Ian Smith, issued a statement Monday defending his client.

“To be clear, SRO Frommeyer has – in no way, shape or form – been accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student. This is all a much to do about nothing that isn’t even close to being something. However, there is proof in this pudding. The proof is, if you’re a school resource officer, do not have a personality.”

According to WPSD, McCracken County Schools said the officer was placed on administrative leave immediately after school officials learned of the allegations.

“On June 16, 2026, the Officer resigned from employment with McCracken County Schools. On June 22, 2026, the Kentucky State Police notified district officials that criminal charges had been filed against the former employee,” the district said in a statement.

“McCracken County Schools is fully cooperating with the Kentucky State Police and will refer all questions regarding the criminal investigation and charges to law enforcement authorities.”
