KCPD: Man suspected of homicide, I-70 shooting spree on the run

Kansas City police have identified the man they believe killed one person and injured four others during a shooting spree Tuesday evening.

Officers identified the suspect as 22-year-old Oscar Sanchez-Munoz.

Police allege Munoz was involved in a deadly shooting and crash that occurred around 6:30 p.m. near Truman Road and Bennington Avenue.

Officers received reports of four separate shooting victims between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at locations across Kansas City, including near Interstate 670 and Wyoming Street, Interstate 70 and Paseo Boulevard, I-70 and Prospect Avenue, and Truman Road and Hardesty Avenue, police said.

All four victims told investigators they were traveling east when gunfire struck their cars.

Three adults and one teenager were taken to the hospital. The teen was last known to be in stable condition, one adult suffered life-threatening injuries, and two others sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Police engaged in a standoff with Sanchez-Munoz at a home in Independence near U.S. 24 Highway and Brookside Avenue Wednesday morning.

Blue Springs police cleared the house at 8 a.m. before handing the residence over to Independence police. Officers did not find Sanchez-Munoz inside the home.

Independence police handed the investigation over to KCPD at 10 a.m. Officers found the vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting at the home on Brookside.

Sanchez-Munoz remains on the run. He also has an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Wyandotte County for aggravated assault, with bond set at $100,000.
