Myrtle Beach police make nearly 400 arrests during busy Memorial Day weekend

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Myrtle Beach police made nearly 400 arrests over Memorial Day weekend as thousands of visitors crowded the Grand Strand.

According to the Myrtle Beach Police Department, officers responded to 2,291 calls for service, including 1,598 officer-initiated calls.

Police said the figures reflect a strong focus on proactive policing during one of the busiest weekends of the year.

Weekend enforcement efforts

Officers made 394 arrests and handed out 851 citations.

Police arrested 11 people on DUI charges and filed 140 drug-related charges.

Officers also issued 76 citations for open container violations.

During the weekend, police recovered 21 firearms.

The department said officers partnered with local, state, and federal agencies to help maintain safety across the city during the holiday weekend.
