Louisville Tourism reports there are 18,085 hotel rooms in Louisville Metro, and as many as 90% could be filled by Derby visitors.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Louisville Tourism says the city’s 18,085 hotel rooms could reach up to 90% occupancy as Derby visitors arrive.
At locations like the Louisville Marriott Downtown, managers are adjusting plans to accommodate guests attending the Oaks after the post time shifted to 8:40 p.m.
“So, we’re staying open later,” said General Manager David Greene. “We think we’re going to capture more business in the morning, maybe some midday bar traffic and drinks before people head out. We’re just adapting and figuring it out.”
Greene said the Marriott Downtown sold out its more than 600 rooms and suites two weeks ago, though he did not disclose the cost of the required three-night stay.
Despite inflation and rising gas prices, demand remains strong.
“They’re still coming to the Derby,” Louisville Tourism Vice President Zack Davis said. “If anything, people are booking a bit later and holding off on decisions longer.”
At Hotel Distil, guests are expected to begin arriving next Monday, with rooms priced at $3,500 per night likely to sell out quickly.
Spending during Derby season remains high.
“There might be a $3,000 bottle of wine purchased,” said Hotel Distil General Manager Casey Grinold, “or even a $25,000 bottle of special bourbon that guests don’t hesitate to buy.”
